Hi all,
I hope that you were all able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. We headed out to our local state park today to take advantage. We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch and then headed over to the barn where there are a multitude of farm animals for the kids (and adults) to interact with. Will charged right into the barn and right up to the animals showing no fear. Other people even commented on his lack of anxiety when approaching an animal twice his size. Little do they know, he's been living in a zoo since the day he was born ;). He was really nice and gentle with all the animals. At one point, he was nose to nose with the rooster "talking" to it. Stephen and I were cracking up. I got a lot of good pictures to post. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a great week!

A day in the life of...
For the sake of looking back a year from now and seeing how much things have changed, I thought I would write about the typical (if there is such a thing) day at the Hertz household.
The day usually begins around 7:00 AM with Will screaming "MOMMMMYYYY" from his bed. He still won't get out of bed on his own, and insists that Mommy or Daddy come get him. He prefers for Mommy to come get him but will settle for Daddy if the yelling goes on long enough. Sarah, usually manages to sleep through all this noise. I am usually awake by this time anyway, so I wander in, scoop him out of bed, and convince him that it is time to eat breakfast. The breakfast menu is continually changing but usually consists of something along the lines of yogurt, cereal or something else quick and easy. About halfway through breakfast, Sarah has stirred and Jenni goes in to scoop her up and feed her. Sarah's breakfast isn't too hard. What it lacks in variety it more than makes up for in ease. Will loves to sit and talk to Mommy during breakfast. Jack has probably spent the morning out in the backyard squirrel hunting, while LE and the cats keep the bed warm.
After breakfast, Will gets a bath and Sarah kicks back in her bouncy seat. The rest of the morning is filled with Will playing with toys or if the weather is nice, playing on the deck. Sarah will eat again before taking her mid-morning nap. Jenni and I usually stay busy picking up the house, working on projects and generally staying busy around the house until lunch time. Will tries to get at least one game of "chase Daddy" in before lunch.
Will eats lunch between 11:30 and 12:00. Lunch consists of PBJ, sliced turkey and cheese or the absolute favorite, any form of pasta. If he has been good he can eat lunch in front of Mr. Rogers on TV. Sarah spends the time on her play mat or in her swing. After lunch time it is break time for Mom and Dad, uh I meant nap time for Will. Naps last between an hour and a half to two hours. Sarah may nap for a portion of that time and if she isn't napping she is pretty content to do most anything. This is also when she usually gets her bath. Jenni uses this time to do all the things she needs/wants to but can't while Will is awake. With the weather turning nice, we have been spending a lot of time working on the yard.
Once Will is awake, we use the afternoon to get out of the house. We get out of the house for one of two reasons. Either we have something to do, or we are tired of being in the house and will make something to do to keep all of us from going crazy. In any case the afternoons are generally reserved for out-of-the-house activities. These activities usually involve a trip to the grocery store and often a trip to a local park if the weather is nice. Will uses the time in the van to watch the Schroeder's copy of Elmo's World. Sarah spends the time napping in her car seat.
By about 4:30 we are all starting to wear down and our thoughts are starting to turn to dinner. Grilling out is probably our favorite thing to do this time of year. Will loves to help me set up the grill. If we don't grill, Jenni has a long list of great recipes. We try to eat dinner around 6:00 and the kids are in bed promptly after dinner between 7 and 7:15. The rest of the evening is spent winding down.
